Share of women who have unmet needs for family planning in the world 2021
In 2021, roughly one out of ten women want to stop or delay childbearing but are not using a method of contraception. The unmet need for family planning was especially high on the African continent. Nearly a fourth of married women living in West and Central Africa had an unmet need for family planning. Only four percent of women living in Northern America, however, were not using contraception yet wanted to stop or delay childbearing.
