In 2024, roughly one out of ten women worldwide wanted to stop or delay childbearing but were not using a method of contraception. The unmet need for family planning was especially high on the African continent. Just over a fifth of married women living in West and Central Africa had an unmet need for family planning. In comparison, only four percent of women living in North America were not using contraception yet wanted to stop or delay childbearing.
