Nearly 65 percent of the adult population in Mozambique had a mobile money account in the first quarter of 2021. The share slightly decreased from around 66 percent in 2020. However, it has overall increased in the period under review. In 2014, for instance, 23 percent of the adult population had an account with a mobile money operator, locally named instituição de moeda eletrónica (IME).
