The Mattancherry palace in Kochi, a gift to the king of Cochin around 1545 by the Portuguese, was the most visited ASI monument by international visitors in the Thrissur circle, accounting for 28 thousand visits in fiscal year 2023. The Dutch carried out some extension and renovation work during the mid-17th century. Therefore, the palace is also known as the "Dutch palace".
