While the Conservatives questioned the Liberals' carbon pricing plan as a plan to undermine the Canadian economy, Conservative Party Leader Erin O'Toole announced in mid-April 2021 that the party would include a carbon price on consumer fuels in its election platform, which surprised many people in Canada. Canadians were generally more supportive of the Liberal plan than the Conservative plan in 2021. The two exceptions were Alberta and Saskatchewan, where 37 and 38 percent of Canadians supported the Conservative plan, respectively, compared to 32 and 31 percent for the Liberal plan.
