How much Italians feel like European citizens 2021

According to a survey conducted in May 2021, around 38 percent of Italians identified themselves as European citizens. This figure might not seem very high, but the sense of belonging proved to be very fragmented among the Italian population. Only slightly more than half of the respondents, in fact, declared to feel like national citizens. On the other hand, 31 percent of them stated that their regional background was most important, and 30 percent of the respondents indicated their city as a crucial side of their identity.
