Global container port capacity 2002-2024
The capacity of container ports worldwide increased between 2002 and 2019. While container ports globally could handle around 380 million TEUs of containerized cargo in 2002, their capacity reached almost 1.2 billion TEUs in 2019. Moreover, it is projected that container ports' capacity will continue to grow in the coming years. In 2024, the combined capacity of the world's container ports is expected to reach nearly 1.3 billion TEUs.
