In 2023, language learning and English test provider Duolingo generated more than 531 million U.S. dollars in revenues, up by 43.7 percent from the previous year. Language learning apps have experienced a surge in popularity during the 2020 coronavirus global outbreak, as users looked for useful ways to spend the time while respecting the stay-at-home measures. Duolingo's upward growth trend does not seem to have stopped in 2021 and 2022, with in-app purchase revenues reaching 88 million U.S. dollars in the last quarter of 2023.
