Most in-demand TV series genres in France 2022

As of 2022, drama was the most sought-after digital series genre by French viewers with more than 39 percent of audience demand. Animated content followed in second position with an audience demand of 16.5 percent. Sports shows were among the least popular genres as the demand for such series accounted for less than one percent.

Hunger for drama

The French are great consumers of television shows and this trend shows no sign of weakening. While 40 percent of viewers watch TV shows every day or almost, La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) comes in first place among the favorite shows of French viewers, regardless of their gender. In 2020, the Netflix production was among the most in-demand television shows in France, alongside other successful shows such as The Mandalorian and Lucifer.

Netflix, streaming giant

Thanks to their wide offer and low price, the arrival of streaming video giants like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video on the French market has been a determining factor in the growing popularity of series in France. Netflix remains the favorite streaming service of French consumers and is still the streaming service with the most active subscribers in 2020.
