According to a survey among Hong Kong consumers, around 44 percent of respondents stated that they would be more careful in spending after the coronavirus pandemic ends. Compared to parents, young respondents without kids were more relaxed and more willing to make non-essential purchases after the pandemic ends.
Expected spending behavior after the end of coronavirus in Hong Kong as of March 2021, by consumer group
The survey was conducted among respondents with monthly personal income of 12,000 Hong Kong dollars or above.
Young people refer to respondents aged 21 to 30 who are unmarried or married without children.
Parents refer to respondents aged 21 to 60 who are with children aged 12 or below.
Middle class refers to individuals with personal income of 35,000 Hong Kong dollars or more, or parents with monthly household income of 50,000 Hong Kong dollars or more.
