The electric power industry in Texas produced emitted more than 200 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO2) in 2020. Emissions from coal-fired electric power in Texas totaled 83 MtCO2, while natural gas power emitted 119 MtCO2 - higher than any other state. Texas is by far the largest natural gas producer in the U.S. Florida's electric power industry was the second-largest CO2 emitter in the U.S. in 2020, with natural gas as the primary source of emissions in the state.
