Africa's insurance premiums amounted to over 70 billion U.S. dollars in 2022. This corresponded to a share of one percent of the world's insurance premium. South Africa had by far the highest participation on the continent, representing more than half of the total contributions. Around 45.8 billion U.S. dollars were paid by insured individuals and businesses in policies in the country.
