In Ghana, international funds in support of the use of clean and renewable energy in the country amounted to 3.4 million U.S. dollars in 2019, adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP). The inflow of external funds for this cause fluctuated over the period examined, peaking in 2016 at 505 million PPP U.S. dollars. On the other hand, the lowest value received by Ghana was reached in 2012, at 790,000 PPP U.S. dollars. Furthermore, 22 percent of the country's population had access to clean cooking fuels and cooking technology in 2020. Overall, a report has revealed that over three billion people in developing countries rely on coal and traditional biomass to meet their cooking energy needs. Heavy reliance on these, however, often results in exposure to indoor air pollution, which leads to premature deaths.
