According to a survey conducted between August and October 2023 in Japan, around 48 percent of respondents intending to replace their passenger car sometime stated planning to get a vehicle with a gasoline-powered combustion engine. Figures remained similar to the previous survey, showing that consumer sentiment towards next-generation vehicles has not changed.

*The target group was private households in Japan, regardless of automobile ownership. In automobile-owning households, the main driver of the vehicle bought most recently had to respond. In the other ones, the person in the center of the household economy had to respond. Households were randomly selected in a two-step process, first determining 300 survey points reflecting regional population sizes, then conducting random walks from each point.
This survey item targeted car owners who stated the intention to replace their latest vehicle purchased, including those who were undecided.
