In 2019, it was found that 89 percent of French victims of sexual violence as minors had been sexually assaulted (e.g., touched) and 22 percent had been raped. When looking at the proportion of people who were sexually abused as children who filed a complaint or not, it appears that in almost three-quarters of the cases, no complaint was filed, either by the victim or by a third party. However, of the 14 percent of victims of childhood sexual abuse who knew that a complaint had been filed for what they had experienced, 43 percent were able to take their abuser(s) to trial and conviction.
