As of March 2021, the total value of loans granted by commercial banks in Tanzania reached around 22.2 trillion Tanzanian shillings (TZS), roughly 9.6 billion U.S. dollars. It slightly increased from 21.9 trillion TZS (9.4 U.S. dollars) in the preceding year. Loans to non-financial corporations (other than public corporations), and residents constituted nearly 85 percent of the total amount of credit conceded by Tanzanian commercial banks in the period.
