In 2019, the general opinion of the Malaysian public towards migrant workers was that the influx of migrant workers threatened their culture and heritage, with 68 percent of respondents agreeing. Many Malaysians did not have frequent engagement and interaction with migrant workers on a daily basis, possibly leading to widespread negative attitudes towards them.
