By the end of 2020, at least 834 cities in nearly 72 countries had a renewable energy target in at least one sector. Europe had the most cities with renewable energy targets; about 357 European cities had a renewable energy target in place by the end of that year.
Renewable energy includes energy produced from renewable sources, such as solar, wind, ocean, hydropower, biomass, geothermal resources, and biofuels.
