Number of dairy cows in Poland 2010-2022

 In 2022, there was a total of 2.04 million dairy cows in Poland. This was an increase of 2.1 thousand compared to the previous year.  

Dairy production in Poland

    The highest population of dairy cows is located in the heart of Poland, Mazowieckie (Masovian) region, with over half a million animals. By contrast, Lubuskie voivodeship was least popular among dairy cow owners, where the livestock amounted to approximately 13 thousand. Over the years, cow’s milk production fluctuated. However, it reached a record level of 14.5 billion liters in 2021.    

Dairy consumption in Poland

     The volume of cow's milk consumption has been steadily increasing, with the average Pole drinking 251 liters of milk in 2021. Despite that, the average retail price of cow’s milk variated in the recent years. In 2022, one liter of milk could be purchased for 3.8 zloty on average. As a result of price changes, the average monthly per capita expenditure on milk also fluctuated. In 2020, the monthly expenditure fell under nine zloty for the first time in the years observed.
