According to a survey among single men and women in Japan, lunch cafés and restaurants were the most popular locations for in-person dates during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, accounting for almost 35 percent of responses. Other common dating spots included smaller shops or malls as well as bars or dinner restaurants. Meanwhile, less costly options such as outdoor locations were less popular.
