Carbon dioxide emissions are projected to grow under the Recover post-COVID-19 scenario. Asia will be the region with the highest emission levels under all three scenarios, reaching over one billion metric tons by 2050 under the Recover layout. Overall, three of the seven regions are projected to have emissions above 2015 levels under the Recover plan. Emissions for other regions, such as the Asian region, are projected to drop by 2050 in plans involving some decarbonization efforts from governments.

Three different scenarios for post-COVID-19 pandemic are presented here. The recover scenario assumes governments will prioritize economic recovery by reinforcing established economic activities. The reshape scenario assumes governments will adopt decarbonization policies after the pandemic. The reshape+ scenario includes governments taking advantage of decarbonization opportunities initially created by the pandemic, reinforcing the efforts outlined by the reshape scenario.
