At just over 26.5 million metric tons, the volume of intra-EU steel scrap exports decreased by 10.4 percent compared to 2021. Within the leading exporters, the Germany was particularly affected, its exports dropping by 14.3 percent to some 1.1 million metric tons. Germany was the European leader for internal steel scrap exports, selling around 6.5 million metric tons of this recycled metal to other European Union countries.
