In the two weeks prior to May 22, 2023, over 95 percent of submitted genomes in Russia belonged to the Sars-CoV-2 Variant of Concern (VOC) Omicron (XBB) and Omicron (XBB.1.5) combined. Delta was the dominant variant in the country from the end of May 2021 to the beginning of January 2022.
Distribution of genomes of tracked COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOC) shared on GISAID in Russia in the past two weeks from May 25, 2020 to May 22, 2023
The figures represent the number of submissions of genomes from the tracked variant to GISAID. The source specified that "recently-discovered or actively-monitored variants may be overrepresented, as suspected cases of
these variants are likely to be sequenced preferentially or faster than other cases."
