As of March 2023, India's Agriculture and allied services reported the highest gross non-performing assets (GNPA) ratio of 7.7 percent, a decline from 8.6 percent in December 2022. The sector was followed by industry sector with GNPA ratio at 5.2 percent.
Non-performing assets are those loans and advances that cannot be repaid or are delayed. They pose a risk on the liquidity of a financial institution. GNPA ratio is the ratio of total gross non-performing assets to total loans of the bank. A very high GNPA means the institution's asset quality is in bad shape.
