Asia is projected to have the largest non-urban passenger transport demand recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in all three scenarios presented, dwarfing all other regions. It is expected to reach the highest volume under the “recover scenario”, at over 31,250 billion passenger-kilometers. The region is projected to be followed by the United States and Canada.

Three different scenarios for post-COVID-19 pandemic are presented here. The recover scenario assumes governments will prioritize economic recovery by reinforcing established economic activities. The reshape scenario assumes governments will adopt decarbonization policies after the pandemic. The reshape+ scenario includes governments taking advantage of decarbonization opportunities initially created by the pandemic, reinforcing the efforts outlined by the reshape scenario.
