In September and October 2019, 65 percent of the surveyed population in Ghana agreed that communities are stronger when they are made up of people from diverse ethnic groups, races, or religious affiliations. On the other hand, 31 percent of them agreed that communities consisting of people similar to each other were stronger. Overall, 67 percent of the 18 surveyed countries agreed that diversity makes communities stronger.
Does diversity make communities stronger in Ghana?
The survey was conducted across 18 African countries comprising all 26,777 interviewed respondents.
Respondents were asked the following question: "Which of the following statements is closest to your view?
Statement 1: Communities are stronger when they are made up of people from different ethnic groups, races, or religions.
Statement 2: Communities are stronger when they are made up of people who are similar to each other, that is, people from the same ethnic group, race, or religion.
