The 2020 Summer Olympic games in Tokyo were postponed by a year as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, the fate of the rescheduled event still hung in the balance as the health crisis was still raging on a year later. During a May 2021 survey in selected European countries, 33 percent of respondents from France believed that only athletes who had been vaccinated should be able to compete in the Summer Olympics.
