Between March 2020, and March 2021, users based in Italy spent 41 percent of their online time engaging with social networking websites and apps. instant messaging was the second most popular category in the examined period, registering 24 percent of online users' engagement. News and information online outlets recorded only six percent of the total time spent online by Italian users throughout the year, with roughly 38 million unique website visitors.
