Percentage distribution of turnover of biotech enterprises in Spain 2020, by region
In 2020, Catalonia was the autonomous community with the highest turnover in the Spanish biotech sector, with nearly 46 percent. Madrid ranked second, with a turnover share of around 34.5 percent relative to the total generated by the biotechnology industry. Altogether, these two communities made up approximately 80 percent of the total turnover of biotech enterprises in the European country as of that date. The production value of the Spanish biotech industry was estimated at over 12 billion euros in 2020.
