In the fourth quarter of 2020, organizations with 500 to 2,000 employees had an average of 690 distinct cloud apps in use. Over the course of the year, use of cloud apps increased by 20 percent. Importantly, many apps are freely adopted by business units and users and thus fall under the shadow IT category.
