Prison population in Kenya 2010-2020

As of 2020, around 86 thousand people faced imprisonment in Kenya. The country's prison population strongly decreased from some 219 thousand in the preceding year. The figures consider convicted individuals, those committed for civil debt, and remand prisoners. Unconvicted individuals constituted the largest amount of prisoners in Kenya. According to the source, the decline in the total prison population was attributed to sentence reviews of offenders serving death sentences and life imprisonment.
