Miami, Los Angeles / OC, and San Diego had the least space is available for new single-family home construction in the United States as of the 1st quarter of 2024. San Antonio was the city with the highest lot index value, amounting to 82, where a value of 100 represents a market equilibrium. In Los Angeles / OC, the lot supply index amounted to less than 15.6 index points, meaning that it was severely undersupplied.

The source does add, however, that the 30 markets on display were the top markets and all were significantly undersupplied.

The index was calculated based on each markets’ specific equilibrium. A value of 100, represents perfect equilibrium, while a value of 125 and above equals “Significantly Oversupplied”, 115-125 – “Slightly Oversupplied”, 85-115 – “Appropriately Supply”, 75-85 – “Slightly Undersupplied”, and 75 and below – “Significantly Undersupplied.”"
