The coronavirus pandemic led to a marked increase in how many new construction homes made up single-family housing available for sale in the U.S. By early 2021, this was estimated to be between 25 and 30 percent - a significantly higher figure than before the pandemic. Likely this is caused by less Americans putting their homes up for sale during this economically uncertain period of time, as well as a general increase in U.S. homebuilding in the months after the first COVID-19 lockdowns.
