Babbel is a language learning mobile and web application operated by the German company Lesson Nine GmbH. The application was launched in 2008 and currently offers courses to learn 14 different languages accessible to paying web and mobile users who have purchased a subscription plan. In 2019, Babbel recorded net losses of three million euros, partially recovering from the 12.4 million euros in net losses of the previous year. Despite posting annual company losses, Babbel is one of the most popular language-learning mobile apps worldwide, generating in-app revenues of over three million U.S. dollars in April 2021 alone.
