The European questionnaire on Information and Communication Technologies Data reveals that there exists a disparity between the internet usage of people with a low (At most lower secondary education), medium (Upper secondary and post-secondary non-tertiary education), and high (Tertiary education) formal education level. This disparity although present in most countries, differs widely in its severity.
In 2020, 68 percent of users with low formal education in the Netherlands responded that they used the internet to access online news sites, newspapers, or news magazines. A higher share of users with medium or higher education tended to use the internet to access news. According to the survey 84 percent of people with a medium level of formal education 92 percent of users with a high degree of formal education accessed online news sites, newspapers, or news magazines. The disparity between people with lower and higher formal education in 2020 was 24 percent.
