The European questionnaire on Information and Communication Technologies Data reveals that there exists a disparity between the internet usage of people with a low (At most lower secondary education), medium (Upper secondary and post-secondary non-tertiary education), and high (Tertiary education) formal education level. This disparity although present in most countries, differs widely in its severity.
In 2020, 64 percent of users with low formal education in Malta replied that they used the internet to find information about goods and services. A higher share of users with medium or higher education tended to use the internet for this purpose. According to the survey 80 percent of people with a medium level of formal education 97 percent of users with a high degree of formal education informed themselves about goods and services online. The gap between people with lower and higher formal education therefore was 33 percent.
