Battles and consequent fatalities in Mozambique 2018-2021
Until May 2021, 46 violent clashes were registered in Mozambique, resulting in 180 fatalities. In the entire 2020, 129 battles occurred in the country, with 880 deaths recorded. Mozambique has seen the deterioration of a violent conflict in the north of the country due to an extremist insurgency. Between March and April 2021, a battle between rebels and armed forces in Palma, capital of the northmost province Cabo Delgado, resulted in the deaths of local civilians and foreigners.
