In the fiscal year 2020, the demand for LPG for electricity generation in Japan dropped to zero. Figures peaked in fiscal 2012, reaching over 1.5 thousand metric tons, but have been decreasing steadily ever since then.
After the nuclear disaster in Fukushima in 2011, nuclear energy was replaced with fossil fuels, resulting in an increasing demand for LPG. In more recent years, the demand decreased again since Japan intends to replace fossil fuels with renewable and nuclear energy again.
