In 2021, 40 percent of French people affiliated to the France Insoumise party were supportive of the general principle of public funding of religious services, compared to 18 percent of those supporting Les Républicains. Support for this principle was substantially higher among residents of the Alsace-Moselle region, where the concordat regime, in force between 1802 and 1905 in France, is still in effect.
