In the fiscal year 2020, the import volume of LNG from Qatar to Japan amounted to more than 9.1 million metric tons. Figures peaked in fiscal 2015, reaching over 13.2 million metric tons, but indicated a decrease in more recent years.
To be less dependent on fossil fuel imports, Japan is currently working on replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources and nuclear energy.
