Estimated impact of vehicle automation on traffic accidents 2030, by automation level
Vehicle automation, enabled by advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) installed in vehicles, helps drivers avoid collisions. Level 0/1 automation of a vehicle reduces its collision rate by about 29 percent compared to a vehicle with no automation. It is estimated that once in operation — approximately in 2030 — Level 4/5 autonomous vehicles will be some 76 percent less likely to be involved in a traffic accident than non-automated vehicles.
