In Nigeria, the State of Lagos generated over 900 million Naira in 27 movie theaters in 2020. In fact, Lagos holds the highest market share in the box office, with 45 percent of the total market share. Abuja followed with around 190 million Naira in five cinemas. In total, the gross box office in Nigeria amounted to about two billion Naira in 2020. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, cinemas had to close in Nigeria and reopened in September 2020.
