According to a survey conducted in October 2020, close to 81 percent of smartphone users in Japan, all of whom were using low-cost SIM cards, had a data plan with a low volume of one to seven gigabytes per month. Less than three percent, by contrast, had a plan with a high monthly data volume of 20 gigabytes or more.
