In 2022, the box office revenue in English-speaking West Africa amounted to around 6.9 billion Naira, which is equivalent to almost 8.7 million U.S. dollars. Compared to 2021, the revenue increased by some 44 percent.
In the same year, Hollywood movies accounted for the largest share of revenue generated by this industry. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, cinemas closed. In Nigeria, they reopened in September 2020. Overall in anglophone West-Africa, Nigeria accounted for the largest share of revenue generated by this industry.
