Carbon dioxide emissions from commercial aviation in the European Union increased by 30 percent between 2013 and 2019 to 151.8 million metric tons. Of this total, 81.6 million metric tons was attributable to international flights. The German airline Lufthansa produced 19.11 million metric tons of CO2 in 2019, making it the most polluting European airline that year.
