In 2024, Indonesia was India's primary supplier of coal, with a contribution of nearly 60 percent of the country's imports. South Africa contributed to nearly 14 percent of the country's imports each. Due to increasing coal demand, primarily from the power sector, India is heavily more dependent on imports than domestic production.
