The value of venture capital (VC) equity deals closed in Africa increased year-on-year between 2015 and 2019, before dropping in 2020. In 2020, the value of VC equity deals closed was lower in 2020 than 2019, and amounted to approximately 1.43 billion U.S. dollars, even though there was a significantly higher number of VC equity deals closed in 2020 than in the previous year. A total of 277 million U.S. dollars in VC equity funding was raised by digital and tech startups in 2015, so there has been an increase of around 81 percent during this time period.
