Mobile gamer population India 2021, by age group

As reported by a survey in 2021, the largest share of mobile gamers in India was constituted by men aged between 25 and 44 years. This age group made up 47 percent of the country's overall mobile gaming population. The popularity of mobile gaming grew rapidly in recent years due to the increase in affordability of smartphones and mobile internet plans in the country.

Advertisements in mobile games

In-game advertisements were a popular way of monetizing mobile games, especially in the free-to-play apps. A majority of gamers in India preferred to make progress in their games by watching an advertisement rather than paying money. In-game advertisements were also a source of finding new mobile games among some players.

Impact of COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic along with the lockdowns, boosted the number of active internet users across India, which in turn propelled the mobile gaming industry. The number of mobile game downloads almost doubled after the onset of the pandemic. Mobile gaming apps like Ludo King and Teen Patti, became a prominent source of entertainment and a socializing tool.
