In the fiscal year 2022, about 380.4 thousand female and 109.4 thousand male employees in Japan received parental leave payments. The number for both genders grew steadily throughout the years since fiscal 2014. The government provides parental leave benefits through unemployment insurance for employees whose employers do not grant salaries during parental leave.
