In 2023, UK plastic waste exports to Turkey amounted to some 140,900 metric tons, an increase of almost 60 percent from the previous year. UK plastic waste exports to Turkey surged in the years following China's ban on foreign waste imports in 2017, and reached a peak of almost 210,000 metric tons in 2020. Although exports dropped in the following years, Turkey remained one of the UK's largest plastic waste export destinations.
