There is an ongoing debate in the United States about whether transgender women should be allowed to play women's sports and compete against other female athletes. Current National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules state that transgender women can participate in women’s sports after undergoing one year of testosterone suppression treatment. During an April 2021 survey in the United States, 32 percent of respondents who were affiliated with the Democrat party strongly supported the idea of allowing transgender girls or women to compete against other female athletes at high school level.
